Creating square pictures
Since most digital pictures start out oblong you will need to crop a picture to create a square print. Sometimes this can make all the difference. Cutting out distracting detail around an image can create a sharper focus on the main subject. However, it is best to leave some distance between the main interest and the edge of the picture particularly if you are thinking of creating a wrapped edge. See our guide to wrapping for further guidance.
How do I crop an image ?
Most image editing software will have a crop tool which will produce an adjustable marquee or box superimposed on your picture. Using this you can select the part of the image you want to keep. You should also be able to constrain the proportions of the marquee so that it will only select a square portion of the image. To experiment with different crops it is advisable to make a copy of your image first.
Panorama Prints
Another popular format is the panorama print. Many digital cameras will produce this long wide form format. Also it is possible to stitch together a set of images to create a panorama. Landscape photographs and cityscapes work well in these proportions. There are a few standard sizes on the site but if you need a different size contact us and we will give you a quote for the size you need.
Split Canvas Prints
For a modern take on a picture splitting it up into a number of separate segments can create a more dramatic effect. We are happy to help you with this. There are so many possible combinations it is best to contact us and we can talk through what you could do with your picture.
